Rooftop solar in Noida and Greater Noida can cost far less than its sticker price. A grid-connected home system gets up to ₹78,000 from the central PM Surya Ghar scheme, and Uttar Pradesh adds up to ₹30,000 more. Your DISCOM then credits the units you export through net metering. ChhatSolar explains each step in plain English, with every figure linked to its official source.
We are an independent guide, not a vendor and not a government website. We do not sell systems, take referral fees or rank installers. When you are ready to apply, you do that yourself on the official PM Surya Ghar National Portal.

The subsidy in three steps
- Apply and choose a vendor. Register on the national portal with the mobile number linked to your electricity connection, apply with your DISCOM consumer number, and pick a vendor from the portal’s registered list. Your panels must be Indian-made (the Domestic Content Requirement).
- Install, inspect, net meter. The vendor installs the system and uploads the details; you check them. Your DISCOM then inspects the system, fits a two-way net meter and commissions it.
- Redeem the subsidy. You redeem the central subsidy online: ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more. In UP, UPNEDA then pays the state subsidy of ₹15,000 per kW, capped at ₹30,000, to eligible net-metered homes.
You pay the vendor in full first; both subsidies are reimbursements. For a 3 kW system priced at ₹1,56,000 (UPNEDA’s tentative post-GST figure), that would leave a net cost of about ₹48,000 if both subsidies are paid.
Which DISCOM are you with: NPCL or PVVNL?
Gautam Buddh Nagar district has two electricity distribution companies, and the one on your bill decides who inspects your system and fits your net meter.
- Greater Noida: NPCL. Noida Power Company Limited supplies about 335 sq km of Greater Noida. Its rooftop solar team can be reached at [email protected] or 0120 6226606, as listed on NPCL’s rooftop solar page.
- Noida: PVVNL. Most of Noida is supplied by Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd, a UP Power Corporation DISCOM.
Both follow the same rules from the state regulator, UPERC. Domestic consumers get net metering, extra units carry forward as credit through the financial year, and any credit left on 31 March is paid at ₹2 a unit. Not sure which DISCOM you have? It is printed at the top of your electricity bill.
How ChhatSolar works
ChhatSolar is a student project by a team at Bennett University. We read the scheme guidelines, regulator notifications and DISCOM pages ourselves, record every figure with its source and the date we checked it, and label worked examples as illustrations. Frequently asked questions
How much subsidy can I get for rooftop solar in Noida?
Up to ₹78,000 from the central PM Surya Ghar scheme for a system of 3 kW or more, plus up to ₹30,000 from the UP state subsidy paid by UPNEDA, if it is still available when you apply. That is up to ₹1,08,000 in total.
Do I apply for the subsidy on ChhatSolar?
No. ChhatSolar is an independent information site. You apply only on the official national portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in, where you also choose a registered vendor and redeem the subsidy.
Which DISCOM handles net metering in Greater Noida?
NPCL (Noida Power Company Limited) handles net metering for its consumers in Greater Noida. In most of Noida it is PVVNL. Your electricity bill shows which one supplies you.
Is rooftop solar worth it for a home in Noida?
For many homes, yes. In our illustrative example, a 3 kW system in Greater Noida for a family using about 450 units a month pays for itself in roughly 1.7 to 3.6 years, depending on price and whether the state subsidy is paid. It works best when the system is sized to your own use and you have shade-free roof space.
