ChhatSolar is an independent, non-commercial guide to rooftop solar for homes in Noida and Greater Noida. “Chhat” means roof in Hindi. We explain the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, the Uttar Pradesh state subsidy, system costs, net metering and upkeep in plain English, using official sources wherever they exist.
Who runs ChhatSolar
ChhatSolar is a student project created by a student team at Bennett University, Greater Noida, as part of the course CSET489 Search Engine Optimization. Building a genuinely useful, well-sourced website is part of the assignment.
Team: Shaurya Singh Pundir (team lead, research and planning) and Manas Khandelwal (website build, content and deployment), B.Tech Computer Science, Bennett University.
The guides were drafted with the help of an AI writing assistant and then checked by the team against the official sources listed in each article. Every figure on the site traces to a source we link to.
We are students, not solar engineers, financial advisers or government officials. We have not installed solar systems for anyone, we do not run surveys or product tests, and we do not publish customer stories or testimonials. What we offer is careful reading of the official rules, set out clearly, with a link to the source for every figure.
What ChhatSolar is not
- Not a government website. We have no connection with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the PM Surya Ghar National Portal, UPNEDA, UPERC or any other government body. You can apply for the subsidy only on the official portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
- Not a DISCOM. We are not part of NPCL, PVVNL or UPPCL and cannot answer questions about your bill, connection or application.
- Not a vendor or a lead-generation site. We do not sell systems, pass your details to installers or take referral fees.
Editorial policy
- Sources, in order of preference. First, official primary sources: the PM Surya Ghar portal and MNRE guidelines, PIB press releases, UPNEDA documents, UPERC regulations, and NPCL and PVVNL pages. Second, recognised technical models such as the PVWatts solar model from the US National Laboratory of the Rockies (formerly NREL). Trade press is used only when no official figure exists, and we say so in the text.
- No paid placements. No company has paid to appear on ChhatSolar, and no page contains sponsored content or affiliate links.
- No affiliation. We have no commercial relationship with any solar vendor, manufacturer, bank or DISCOM.
- Review dates. Every guide shows a “Last reviewed” date. We aim to recheck a guide whenever one of its official sources changes.
- Plain language. We define terms such as kWp, DISCOM, CFA and net meter the first time we use them.
How ChhatSolar checks its figures
Every number on the site comes from a central facts register that we keep alongside the content. For each fact, the register records the value, its unit, the source document and web address, the publisher, the date we accessed it and a confidence note. Before a guide is published, its numbers are checked against that register.
- Where an official source gives a figure, we use it as published and link to it.
- Where we combine official figures (for example, adding the central and state subsidies), the arithmetic is shown in the article.
- Where we need a planning assumption, such as 4 units per kW per day of generation, we label it as an assumption and explain the range it comes from.
- Worked examples are clearly labelled as illustrative calculations, with their assumptions listed. They are not quotes or case studies of real households.
- Where we could not verify something, such as a typical inverter replacement cost, we say so and point you to the official source instead of guessing.
Corrections policy
If you find an error or an out-of-date figure, please tell us through the Contact page, ideally with a link to the official source. We check every correction request against the source. When a fix is needed we update the page, change its “Last reviewed” date and, for significant changes, add a short note saying what changed.
