Our guides explain subsidies, costs, net metering and maintenance in plain language, based on official documents as we understood them on the review date shown on each page. They are not a substitute for professional advice about your own home, finances or electrical installation. Before you sign a contract, take a loan or install a system, check the details with the relevant authority and a qualified, registered installer.
No affiliation with government bodies or DISCOMs
ChhatSolar is an independent student project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana National Portal, UPNEDA, the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC), UP Power Corporation, Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL), Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL), or any bank, manufacturer or solar vendor. Names of schemes, agencies and companies are used only to describe them. You can apply for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy only on the official portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
Figures change
Subsidy amounts, eligibility rules, tariffs, regulations, deadlines and market prices change, sometimes without much notice. A figure that was correct on the review date may no longer be correct when you read it. Always confirm current figures on the official sources we link to, such as the PM Surya Ghar portal, UPNEDA, UPERC, and NPCL or PVVNL.
Estimates and worked examples
The solar cost calculator and the worked examples in our guides are illustrative estimates based on stated assumptions. They are not quotes, offers or guarantees of price, generation, savings or payback. Actual results depend on your roof, shading, equipment, installation quality, tariff, consumption and the subsidy rules in force when you apply.
