This Privacy Policy explains what information ChhatSolar collects when you visit the site, why, who processes it on our behalf, and how to contact us about it. ChhatSolar is a non-commercial student project, and we collect as little as we can.

Who we are
ChhatSolar is an independent information website about rooftop solar for homes in Noida and Greater Noida, run by a student team at Bennett University as part of a university course. You can reach us at [email protected].
What we do not collect
ChhatSolar has no user accounts, newsletters, comment forms or contact forms for visitors. We do not ask for your name, phone number, electricity consumer number or bank details, and we never sell, rent or trade personal data. We do not pass any information to solar vendors.
Information collected automatically
Server logs
Like almost every website, our web server records basic technical information about each request: the IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser and device type (the “user agent”). We use these logs only to keep the site secure, diagnose errors and understand overall load. They are kept for a limited period and then deleted or overwritten as the logs rotate.
Cloudflare
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, a content delivery and security service. Cloudflare processes your requests to speed up delivery and to block attacks and abusive traffic. To do this it may set strictly necessary security cookies, for example one used for bot management, and it handles request data such as IP addresses under its own privacy policy. These cookies are not used for advertising.
WordPress
The site runs on WordPress. Ordinary visitors do not need to log in, and WordPress does not set login cookies for them. Login cookies are used only by the site’s administrators.
The solar cost calculator
The calculator normally works entirely in your browser, and the numbers you type are not sent to us. If JavaScript is switched off in your browser, the calculator falls back to a simple form that sends your entries (such as monthly units, bill amount, tariff and roof area) as part of the page address. In that case they may appear in our server logs, but they are not linked to your name or any account. Results pages created this way are marked so that search engines do not index them.
Google Analytics 4 (planned)
We plan to add Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides are useful, for example how many people visit each page and how they arrive. When it is enabled, Google Analytics will set cookies (such as _ga) and collect usage information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device type and how you reached the site. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We will not use Analytics to identify individual visitors, and we will update this policy, and add a consent notice if required, before switching it on.
Cookies
At present ChhatSolar sets no advertising or tracking cookies of its own. The only cookies you may receive are the security cookies described under Cloudflare and, once enabled, the Google Analytics cookies described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
If you email us
If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply and, where relevant, to correct a page. We keep the email only as long as needed to deal with your message and do not add you to any mailing list.
Who processes data for us
- Our hosting provider, which runs the web server and stores server logs.
- Cloudflare, for content delivery and security.
- Google, for Google Analytics 4, once it is enabled.
Some of these providers may process data outside India under their own safeguards.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what personal data, if any, we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, in line with applicable Indian law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Email [email protected]. Because we hold very little personal data, most requests will concern emails you have sent us or entries in server logs.
Children
ChhatSolar is meant for adults making decisions about their homes. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Links to other websites
Our guides link to official websites such as the PM Surya Ghar portal, UPNEDA, UPERC, NPCL and PVVNL. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your data.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, for example when we switch on Google Analytics, we will update this page and its “Last updated” date.
